Highlighted by a state-of-the-art hospital – the Marotta Family Hospital, as well as recent investments by Brock University, Niagara College and McMaster University, the healthcare sector is among the fastest growing industries in St. Catharines today.

A critical mass of healthcare assets is coming together in the city, through the Niagara Health System, Brock University’s Cairns Family Health and Biosciences Research Complex, Brock’s incubation spaces, and McMaster University’s medical campus.

The Faculty of Applied Health Sciences at Brock University is also home to five Canada Research Chairs who are recognized as being exceptional researchers and leaders in their field.

The state-of-the-art St. Catharines Hospital has been a catalyst for a number of significant improvements to patient care. The opening of the St. Catharines hospital meant Niagara residents wouldn’t have to travel out of region for a number of treatments.

Roy and Lois Cairns Health and Bioscience Research Complex

The Roy and Lois Cairns Health and Bioscience Research Complex supports 400 students, faculty, scientists and researchers from the Faculties of Applied Health Sciences, Mathematics, Science, and Social Sciences at Brock University. It provides space for programs in chemistry, biomedical research, molecular biology, medical studies, and biocontainment. There is a focus placed on research and entrepreneurship and bringing new medical ideas and technologies into the Canadian market.
